I have a Kanstul made Besson MEHA with a serial number of 488. I posted the Besson Loyalist site to help jolaanaa eliminate a few possibilities. IMO this horn is most likely to be a true French Besson, made in Paris.
I'm not aware of Kanstul making any Bessons marked 'System Prototype' and as you said, the Kanstul horns don't normally have 6 digit serials. Not so much the designation 'prototype' as the 6 figure serial number. Jolaanaa, does the horn have any marks indicating where it was made? I know lots of English Bessons had this word on them but I think 'Systeme Prototype' was a French Besson label. Make sure you use a French taper mouthpiece. Price should be in the $1000 range give or take depending on condition. They are comparable to other small bore French made flugels from the time such as Courtois, Couesnon, and Selmer. They are well made horns with a beautiful tone, but tricky intonation. According to Horn-u-copia, that serial number is from around 1950. I ditched my Kanstul 1525 after I realized how much I preferred the sound of the f besson. I have one of these flugelhorns, and it is a very nice professional horn. If it's in good condition you might get £200-£300 here in the UK.
